Day 14: How to Continue Without Motivation

RAMADAN

Motivation does not sustain a practice. Structure does. Motivation is available at the beginning, when novelty carries it, and at the end, when proximity to completion carries it. The middle is where structure either holds or reveals itself as insufficient.

You are in the middle.

Today, do not try to recover motivation. Instead, identify what is actually keeping the practice intact. The real reason — habit, accountability, stubbornness, specific fear, investment in having started. Name it accurately.

Then examine whether that reason is structural enough to carry you through the remaining sixteen days. If it is, continue. If it is not, build a structural support that does not depend on how you feel about the practice. Tell someone. Set a condition. Create a consequence for stopping. The practice needs to be able to run without your enthusiasm.
