Day 17: How to Account for Non-Financial Debt

There are forms of debt that do not appear on any ledger. Attention withheld. Presence owed. Honesty deferred. An acknowledgment that was earned and not given. These debts accumulate. They interfere with the clarity of current relationships and current decisions in ways that are difficult to trace because the source is invisible.

Today, name one. One person to whom you owe something that is not financial and that has not yet been paid. Write it down — the person and the specific debt.

You are not required to pay it today. You are required to acknowledge that it exists and stop spending the energy that pretending it doesn't requires. What to do about it is a separate question. Naming it accurately is today's task.
