Systems, Structure and Self-Expression
Day 2: How to Track the Gap Between Intention and Action
RAMADAN
Most people intend more than they do. This is not a character flaw. It is a structural gap — and like any structural problem, it can be examined and worked with once it is accurately located.
For one day, do not try to close the gap. Just observe it. Notice the distance between what you said you would do and what you actually did. Notice where it appears — morning, evening, in certain relationships, under certain conditions. Notice its size.
The gap tends to show up in specific circumstances rather than everywhere. Locating those circumstances is more useful than a general commitment to doing better.
At the end of the day, write down one instance where the gap was widest. Not to punish yourself for it — to have a specific, accurate record of where the structure needs attention. Vague intention produces vague follow-through. Specific observation produces something you can actually work with.
