Day 23: How to Audit the Alignment Between Your Watched and Unwatched Self
RAMADAN
The most accurate measure of consistency is behavior in the absence of observation. Not behavior when you know someone is watching and are trying to act well — behavior when nothing is at stake, when no one will know, when the action will not be recorded.
Today, name two instances from the last few days. One moment you acted well that no one saw. One moment you acted less well that no one saw. Both. The exercise requires both to be useful.
The alignment between these two versions of yourself is the actual measure of integrity — not the gap between your values and your behavior under scrutiny, but the gap between your behavior when watched and your behavior when not. Locating that gap precisely is more useful than any general commitment to doing better.
