Day 29: How to Inhabit a Threshold
RAMADAN
Tomorrow the fast ends. Today is the day before — a threshold. Thresholds carry specific information about what is ending, and that information is only available while you are still in it.
Do not move through today quickly. Notice what you observe — in the body, in the attention, in the anticipation. Not what you expect to feel. What you actually notice.
Thresholds reveal how you relate to endings. Some people accelerate through them toward what is next. Some resist them, wanting to extend what is ending. Some pass through them without noticing. Your particular relationship to this threshold — how you are inhabiting today — is information you can use the next time you begin something, because it tells you what the ending will feel like and whether you tend to make good decisions in it.
